DIY Fall Project Ideas

Leaves are falling and social media feeds are full of videos showing homeowners how to make the most of the fall season. But how easy are those do-it-yourself projects? Here’s one easy DIY fall project that any homeowner can complete.

Vintage Paper Leaf Wreath

Whether it’s for Halloween, Thanksgiving or Christmas, the fall is all about home decorations. There’s no better decoration that encompasses all three holidays than a vintage paper leaf wreath. Here’s what you’ll need to turn this idea into a reality.

  • Leaf template
  • Cardstock
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Old book
  • Craft glue
  • Pressed leaves
  • 24-gauge floral wire cut to 5-inch lengths
  • 20-gauge floral wire
  • Brown floral tape
  • 1/8-inch tan quilling paper
  • Ribbon for bow
  • Hot-glue gun and glue sticks

Follow these simple steps to create this fabulous decoration for your home this fall:

1. Print and cut out leaf template on cardstock. Trace leaf shape on a page from book and roughly trim the paper surrounding the leaf shape.

2. Apply glue to back of leaf shape. Place a 5-inch length of wire on a second page from the book, and then put the leaf shape glue side down over it. Allow glue to dry and cut out. Repeat process to make 50 leaves for the wreath.

3. Bundle five leaves and twist wires together.

4. To create wreath, cut 50-inch length of 20-gauge wire. Fold in half and twist. Shape the twisted wire into a horseshoe; wrap it with brown floral tape.

5. Start at one end of the wreath and attach leaf bundles with floral tape.

6. Work toward the middle, and tie bow at the top of the center of the wreath.
