Labor Day Weekend Ideas

Labor Day Weekend Ideas

There’s something a little bittersweet about the Labor Day weekend. School has started in some places. Textbooks are being opened and routines are setting in. Football and cooler weather are on the horizon. All the signs that we are entering the fall season are upon us. This is a great time to celebrate the frolicking freedom of the summer one last time.

Whether you are looking for places to go or things to do, here are a few options for summer’s swan song.

Fun Activities

Host a Backyard Barbecue

It’s not that you couldn’t use the grill during the spring or fall, but there’s something about firing it between Memorial Day and Labor Day that just feels right. Get together with friends and family and roast a bunch of delicious treats. Burgers and chicken for the grown-ups (and wannabee grown-ups). Hot dogs for the kids. Play some tunes on the bluetooth speaker and pull out the cornhole set. Celebrate the end of summer.

Check Out a Minor League Baseball Game

Major league baseball is fun as well, but minor league baseball is a budget-friendly alternative. Tickets are usually less that $20.00 per person and the concessions are cheap as well. Additionally, minor league teams go out of their way to provide in-stadium entertainment for fans. So grab the kids and head out to the ballpark. You never know, you may catch baseball’s next superstar.

Area Events

Light Up Tampa Bay: Labor Day Weekend Fireworks Celebration

The city of Tampa’s official Labor Day celebration takes place at Channelside Bay Plaza and features a street party, starting at 6 p.m., followed by fireworks at approximately 8:45 p.m.

Art of the Brick

If you haven’t seen this stunning Lego exhibit, this is your last weekend to do so. The exhibit takes place at the District 3 Arts and Events Venue (802 E. Whiting Street Tampa, FL 33602) and features over 100 works from LEGO artist Nathan Sawaya.
