Swimming pools and summer cookouts are giving way to books and school supplies. It’s not all bad, back to school means returning to a routine, which is important in any household. It also means moving towards the aca goal. Here’s the basic information you need to have a great school year in Pasco County.

Dates of Note

There are critical dates throughout the year. Put these in your calendar now:

  • First Day of School (yikes!): Monday, August 14
  • Labor Day Holiday: Monday, September 4
  • End of 1st Grading Period: Friday, Oct 13
  • Non-Student Day: Monday, October 16
  • Veteran’s Day Holiday: Friday, November 10
  • Fall Break and District Offices Closed: November 20-24
  • End of 2nd Grading Period: Friday, December 22
  • Winter Break and District Offices Closed: December 25, 2017 – January 5, 2018
  • Students Return to School: Tuesday, January 9, 2018
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday: Monday, January 15, 2018
  • President’s Day: Monday, February 19, 2018
  • End of 3rd Grading Period: Thursday, March 15, 2018
  • Spring Break: March 17-25, 2018
  • Students Return to School: Monday, March 26, 2018
  • Last Day of School: Friday, May 25, 2018

Immunization Requirements

Do you have a child entering kindergarten? Children from kindergarten through 12th grade need to have a Florida Certification of Immunization (Form DH 680). It must list the following immunizations:

  • Four or five doses of diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis (DTaP) vaccine*
  • Three doses of hepatitis B (Hep B) vaccine
  • Three, four or five doses of polio (IPV) vaccine**
  • Two doses of measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine
  • Two doses of varicella vaccine *** for KG – 9th grade
  • One dose of varicella vaccine *** for grades 10th – 12th
  • One dose of tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (Tdap) vaccine for grades 7th – 12th only
    *The fifth dose of DTaP vaccine is not necessary if the fourth dose was administered at age 4 years or older.
    **If four or more doses are administered before age 4 years, an additional dose should be administered at age 4 through 6 years and at least six months after the previous dose. A fourth dose is not necessary if the third dose was administered at age 4 years or older and at least six months after the previous dose.
    ***Varicella vaccine is not required if varicella disease is documented by the health care provider

If your child is entering Pre-Kindergarten, the immunization requirements are:

  • Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13)+
  • Diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis (DTaP) vaccine
  • Polio vaccine (IPV)
  • Measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine
  • Varicella vaccine++ (chickenpox)
  • Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) vaccine
  • Hepatitis B (Hep B) vaccine
    +Effective January 1, 2012, PCV required for children 0-59 months.
    ++Varicella vaccine is not required if varicella disease is documented by the health care provider
